These are the lower panels of the doors covering the St. Catherine Altarpiece. Unfortunately, the words on the scrolls have faded away (or perhaps been scratched off). But it was traditional to see a prophecy of the Annunciation and the Nativity in Isaiah's words to Achaz, "Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (Isaiah 7:14). A large number of passages from the Psalms (attributed to David) were considered similarly prophetic.

David is identified by his attributes, the crown and harp. Isaiah is identified only by the label provided in the chapter room.

The two doors close over the "open state" of the altarpiece:
